Our client, The Open University is a public distance learning and Research University, and one of the biggest universities in the UK for undergraduate education.

This is a temporary role due to start asap until 11th January 2019, 37 hour hours a week, paying between £13.77 and £14.60 an hour.

The role of the Health and Safety Co-ordinator is to act as a key member of the Health and Safety Team providing professional and efficient health and safety support services covering areas of health and safety management across the whole of the Open University.

Duties:
1. Responsible for overseeing the Open University’s first aid provision in accordance with the First Aid Operational Standard as directed by the Health and Safety Manager including liaising with First Aiders, booking first aid training, ensuring first aid boxes are up to date, managing requests for equipment from first aiders.
2. Ensure that all fire incident forms are logged and followed up.
3. Responsible for booking training health and safety courses. To include arranging seminars, booking meeting rooms, catering arrangements, accommodation and equipment, liaising with external organisations and assisting with external trainers when they are on site.
4. Act as the primary contact for Units seeking advice and support for Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPS) providing support to those departments/Units ensuring that PEEPS are correct and in line with regulatory guidance. Assist Units with Fire Evacuation Lift training.
5. Responsible for receiving, coding and logging all University accident/incident forms from staff, students and visitors ensuring that the accident/incident database is maintained at all times. Responsible for the investigation of lower risk accidents and incidents and liaising with the Health & Safety Manager/ Health & Safety Advisor for higher risk accidents, ensuring effective investigation and liaison with Estates, and other Units as appropriate.
6. Provide professional, competent and timely advice, supporting faculties, units and the Regional and National centres on the implementation of the University Health and Safety Policies and Procedures to enable them to make appropriate decisions/take appropriate action to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and best practise. Attend and make a positive contribution to health and safety team, departmental/Faculty/Unit health and safety meetings as required.
7. Act as the first line response to all health and safety related queries received via the health and safety inbox and/or telephone line. Use judgement and initiative in answering queries and where necessary seek advice from the Health and Safety Manager for more complex requests.
8. Support the Senior DSE Safety Co-ordinator when required including taking higher level DSE Assessments.
